UFC 6 is the latest in EA Sport’s UFC game catalog, the first coming out in 2014 when THQ sold the IP to EA. Sports games, especially numbered ones like this, are definitely a case of “You know what you’re getting” from just glancing at the box art. However, if you somehow ended up here without playing the others, you have the standard EA Formula. There’s a single player campaign mode, an online mode, and an offline versus. UFC 6 did add a new prequel to the classic Career mode. They have added a bit more for the offline player to do which is a great improvement.

In typical Modern EA fashion, we have a cash shop. There is a rotating daily shop and a rotating weekly shop. So far the offerings have been less than stellar, different glove colors, different shorts. In UFC 4 we had kilts, and other short options. We had better hairstyle options, and these are not even included in the store so far. The cash shop is a frustrating inclusion for a $70 game, and it doesn’t even have offerings that I think are worth it.

Online has the same input lag, bad connections, no punishment for people plugging. To be fair, I don’t really know what I want them to change. Maybe some sort of punishment to start, but beyond that, I don’t think you can really do much about Wi-Fi warriors or the person yanking their Ethernet cable.

- Graphics– The graphics look fantastic, a lot of the fighters look very close to the real life people they are modeled after. The locations from your gym to the arenas you fight in are all phenomenal. As this is the 6th game in EA’s run, it should come as no surprise, but even down to bruising of the body/face, cuts and blood splatter, the game looks phenomenal.
- Gameplay– The gameplay really comes down to your luck of the draw. I have seen people have no problems, I have seen people have nothing BUT problems. I have been pretty middle of the road, so your mileage may vary.
When the game is working as you’d expect (Dare I say, intended) it’s great!
The striking feels fluid, impactful, and it’s cinematic as all get out. The grappling is almost the exact same as UFC 5, but I don’t think that’s a point against the game, it’s hard to make grappling feel fluid or good. If the grappling gets too technical its no fun and has a steep barrier to entry, but if it’s too easy it’s a big ol’ “what’s the point?” UFC 6’s grappling is pretty okay, just like 5’s was.
Now when the game is NOT working as you’d expect, its almost entirely the way the skeletons move. The way your opponents body reacts to getting a headkick, but then their arm flies behind their back and still hits you. There was no interruption in movements that should have been there. I can almost guess at the development being “fist has a hit box, fist was moving at x velocity and it was snapshot at that time when they got interrupted, so if it still collides it has the momentum as if they weren’t interrupted.”
It was frustrating to say the least when it happened. Since playing on the hardest difficulty meant their strikes were lined with cinder blocks sometimes this would be a fight ender even if I interrupted in a way I feel was correct. I ran into a game breaking bug in career mode where I was just locked into a black screen after winning a fight, I restarted and did that fight multiple times but after every win it locked me in that moment.
In 2026, for $70, a big company like EA? No shot, this is kinda unacceptable. The more I played, the more bugs I got. - Sound– Sound design is good, strikes feel impactful. The announcers feel accurate, the crowd has the right volume. There are even 4 settings to change if you’d rather the volume levels feel like you’re in the crowd, in the ring, ringside, etc. You can make it pretty atmospheric to what experience you want. From a streaming standpoint, there is no streamer mode or way to enable a non dmca playlist. You CAN deselect every track but there isn’t anything to signify that it is licensed, so after I got my first stream muted, I played my own music after.
- Controls– Controls are standard and intuitive, nothing much has changed from previous UFC games, each face button controls a limb. What I mean by that is Square is left hand, Triangle is right hand, X is left leg, and O is right leg. The shoulder buttons are modifiers, holding L1 makes your punches and kicks go for the head, L2 makes them attack low, R2 blocks high and R2 + L2 blocks low. There are some more combinations for specialty moves that you can unlock and slots to fill but I can’t describe them for you beyond that it makes sense as you play.
- Story– There are 2 main story modes in UFC 6, The Legacy which serves as the introduction to the UFC Career mode, you play as a set character Chris Carter as he begins his MMA career. It sets the stage for Believe MMA and Coach Carter who if you start with just the classic Career Mode you are introduced to as if you know them. I didn’t start with Legacy, so I was a little thrown off because the game expects you to play one before the other. Otherwise, it’s a good fight sim, you can pick how you train, learn moves, and manage your fighter. You pick your fights, decline as necessary and have the opportunity for contract bonuses like getting fight of the night x times, or entering all fights in your contract at PEAK fitness.
Final Thoughts
Pros:
Cons:
- Game breaking bugs
- Difficulty just changes damage modifiers (reducing your damage and buff opponents), and not actual AI or tactics.
- Cash shop in a $70 game
- A ton of fighters are missing from previous games
I do not recommend even with a deep sale UFC 6. if you like fighting simulation games like previous UFC games or Undisputed, you might enjoy the game. Overall, it DOES feel like a step up from UFC 5. I think a lot of my problems with the game will be addressed via patches, or rather, have the ability to be patched. Whether or not EA does patch them remains to be seen. I am concerned that EA needing to pay back their debt will just lead to more predatory monetization and the UFC franchise won’t have a fighting chance to make it out of that particular octagon.
