“Exorcise hordes of demons using gun-wielding nuns and angels in this survivors-like bullet heaven! Collect and keep angels with unique weapons, stats, and abilities to create god-like builds as you fend off waves of enemies! Do you have enough faith to survive?” – Steam Description
Flock of the Seraphim is a 3d bullet hell/heaven depending on your perspective. It plays similar in playstyle to something like Risk of Rain 2 or more recently Megabonk. Instead of being in large open maps like you’d be in those titles they have placed you in a small cramped room. This has benefits and drawbacks for me. My biggest benefit is that with the right build I can stand in the middle of the room sipping my coffee with my hands off the keyboard because everything dies as soon as it spawns. Making a build where I am strong enough to not actually play the game is how I know I’m playing the game right.
Battle Sisters
There are four characters with unique models that you can choose between. Each nun has a buff that they apply (e.g. Mystic Nun has increased Jump Height, Crusader Sister has increased Melee Weapon Damage.) as well three unique weapons to choose from. You will unlock these via certain thresholds or achievements but the weapon you start with also applies a specific buff. Such as the Lightning weapon giving 2% more Experience when leveling and the Spear giving 0.1 Movement Speed when leveling. You’ll also have another choice to make before your run once you have a few runs under your belt, but we will touch on those in a bit.

We Can’t Expect God to Do All The Work
This is a horde survivors-like so you spawn into a room and enemies will spawn and come at you. You will defeat these enemies for experience gems and when you collect enough experience gems you will level up. Pretty standard stuff for the genre, you get 3 options to choose from. The difference here is some of the buffs are for you and some are for your Angels.

That’s right, you can get Angels which circle around you with their own weapons. They will fire independently of you and attack the nearest enemy. There are RPG Angels, Rifle Angels, Bow Angels, and so on. The Angels also have a level system ranging from 1 star to 3 stars. At 3 stars, you’ll unlock their perk which is another buff for you. Playing on harder difficulties will help you get higher level angels from the drops but you can spend meta currency to level Angels from 1 star to 3 star if you really wanted.

Posing Matters
There is a posing that is unique to this genre. As you unlock certain achievements you will get poses that you can turn on and off. These poses will be struck when you collect crosses that drop in your level. Whatever buff the cross gives you will trigger the correlating pose for a second and it doesn’t impact your firing or attack rate or anything like that.
“I just wanted to make a nun pray in the jack-o pose. The game sorta made itself after that.” – Dev

Now that you have a few runs in, you will notice you have collected Angels in your runs. Before you start a run you can select angels to start with which can give you a boost from the start. Like I mentioned before, the Angels have different weapons and different levels. You can sort this menu by weapon type, level, or even ability. That way you can have a full party of SMG Angels if you wanted so that way you can get SMG upgrades to benefit all your Angels at once. Alternatively, you could have a full spread of different weapons because they have different attack patterns. The crucifix weapon, for instance, is one of my favorites to use because it’s basically garlic from Vampire Survivors.

- Graphics– Cute models on the low poly side. It’s charming and you can tell it’s a solo project but I really enjoy them.
- Gameplay– Gameplay loop is addicting, and I suffered from “One more run” too many times and was late to stream a couple times.
- Sound– Sound is alright, nothing special.
- Controls– Controls are fun, the jump has that Godot “float” to it, and if you’ve ever developed in Godot, you’d know what I’m talking about. That jump just has a feel, but it’s not necessarily bad in this game.
- Story– Uh, you don’t play this game for a story. The dev didn’t even make this game to tell a story.
Final Thoughts
Pros:
Cons:
- No way to re-roll your rewards for leveling. The only re-rolls that you get in metaprogression are for your Angels.
I recommend Flock of the Seraphim.
This was a fun game. This was made in Godot by a solo developer and I am biased towards that for sure. Even so, it is a good horde survivors-like. The 3d Survivors like genre has been getting jumped on since Megabonk hit the scene and this dev threw their hat into the ring in a big way. It’s not terribly long, I have 5.1 hours in steam and I am 1.5 runs away from getting 100% of the achievements. If you’re a fan of survivors, you shouldn’t miss this one.
