“Your bond is your greatest weapon! Team up with a friend to battle monsters by answering quirky and thought-provoking questions about each other, while building decks and exploring an ever-changing world. Can your relationship survive the ultimate test?” -Steam Description

Duo Quest is a two-player co-op deckbuilder where you fight pixel monsters, but the real weapon is how well you two know each other. You answer questions about your partner, they answer questions about you, and when your answers match, the good stuff happens. So basically itโs a pop quiz on your relationship with a card game stapled to it, and we loved it.
Frogs, Fights, and Feelings
Each of you gets your own deck and you work your way through randomly generated routes toward bosses. Along the way you’ll run into random events, battles, or even a merchant frog who will happily trade your gold for new cards. Every so often, Bondbreaker mode (yes, very on the nose) interrupts your fights to quiz you both separately. There are over 1,000 questions across 20+ themes, ranging from “what is your partner’s greatest fear?” to “is cereal a soup?”.

Build-a-Bond
Since this is a deckbuilder at heart, we have to talk about the cards. There are five classes to unlock, and each one comes with its own set of cards and its own playstyle. We stuck with the two starting classes, Steel and Wiz. The cards you unlock keep stacking up as you play, with hundreds to collect across runs, and you can replay levels to hunt down the ones you missed. The part we liked most is that your relationship quiz answers feed right back into the card game. The questions come in themes, and the ones you pick shape your strategy and unlock the combo cards. So youโre not just answering questions for fun, youโre answering them to get better cards. We found ourselves actually trying to match each other, which turns out to be harder than it sounds.

Warning: Feelings Ahead
Fair warning: some of these questions go places. You might open a conversation you were not planning to have on a random Thursday night. Weโd call that a feature, but your mileage may vary depending on how much you enjoy being asked things youโve never actually thought about. Also, thereโs no solo mode. Itโs a two-player game and nothing else, so if you donโt have a plus one, this one isnโt for you (yet.)

- Graphics– Cute 8-bit fantasy pixel art that doesnโt take itself seriously. The villain is called the Demon King and his evil invention is literally โThe Bondbreaker.โ It knows what it is, and we respect that.
- Gameplay– Deckbuilding, route picking, bosses, five classes to unlock, and relationship questions on top.
- Sound– The music was very cute and changed based on what fight or scenario we were in
- Controls– It supports split screen and Steam Remote Play Together. We played online and had no real issues besides initially struggling to connect my controller (totally a me problem)
- Story– The kingdomโs last hope is two Pal-adins and the power of their bond, which is a very cheesy setup that we enjoyed way more than we expected to. The story stays mostly out of the way and lets the questions do the heavy lifting.
Final Thoughts
Pros:
Cons:
- No solo mode, so no playing unless you have a partner or friend
- The UI can use some work, and we encountered a couple of bugs (including one that forced us to restart)
We recommend DuoQuest!
If youโve got a girlfriend, boyfriend, best friend, or roommate you can tolerate for a couple hours, this is worth grabbing. Itโs a really fun excuse to learn something new about someone you thought you already knew everything about. Just maybe donโt play it right before a big fight. Or do. Weโre not your bosses.
